What is “Time Out”?
“Time Out” is a health and wellness program with the primary goal of promoting the adoption and maintenance of behaviors that would reduce a person’s risk for getting the human immunodeficiency virus or HIV.

The “Time Out” program is designed for the needs of each person through the help of a prevention case manager (PCM) or a health and wellness consultant. The PCM provides intensive, on-going, individualized prevention counseling, emotional support, linkages and referrals to other vital services.

In the end, what the “Time Out” addresses is the relationship between HIV risk and other issues such as substance abuse, STD treatment, mental health, cultural and socioeconomic factors

What are the goals of “Time Out”?
To provide personalized, multi-session risk reduction counseling to help initiate and maintain behavior change.

To assess risks of other sexually transmitted diseases and ensure appropriate diagnosis and adequate treatment.

To facilitate referral services for the individual’s medical and wellness needs that affect their health and ability to change HIV related risk-taking behavior.

How can a PCM benefit you?
For starters, when was the last time you got an HIV test? If it has been more than 3 to 6 months ago and you have been sexually active, a PCM can refer you to a free, anonymous or confidential HIV testing site. Don’t know the difference between anonymous and confidential testing? Call us so that we could help explain it to you.

Do you wonder if using recreational drugs along with sex is putting you and your partner at risk for contracting other STD’s beside HIV? A PCM can help you assess your risks factors and agree on a plan that would help lower your risk.

Imagine having your own personal health and wellness consultant who can introduce you to a whole new network of fun and interesting activities!

Consider this statement from someone that has gone through “Time Out”:
“ There were so many issues I needed to deal with all at the same time. My PCM helped me sort through those difficulties. I received referrals for legal questions I had as well as helping me with my resume and finding a job. It is also great that I get to talk to someone who is not biased or judgmental.”
