The PEP program is APAIT's youth empowerment program focusing on gay Asian and Pacific Islander men, ages 18 to 24. This program is based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's evidence-based intervention, Popular Opinion Leader. By identifying and recruiting opinion leaders in the community, we provide training and activities which empower participants to initiate HIV risk-reduction conversations with their friends and peers.
Over the course of four weekly sessions, participants receive HIV risk-reduction education and acquire skills on how to integrate HIV risk-reduction messages into conversations with their friends. The ultimate goal is to have peers educate and empower their peers to positively change social norms about safer sex, reduce HIV stigma, and increase HIV testing in the gay API community of Los Angeles County.

This program is supported by funds received from the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, OAPP.
