MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HIV

The Men of Asia Testing for HIV (MATH) Study is in the process of recruiting Asian and/or Pacific Islander Men (API MSM) who have had sex with men to participate in an HIV Testing/Behavioral Study.  This historic study has sites in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Orange County, Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia.

BACKGROUND

The recent availability of rapid HIV testing represents an important tool in reaching populations with significant barriers to HIV testing.  The MATH Study will be the first large-scale HIV study that:

  • Focuses on Asian & Pacific Islander men who have sex with men.
  • Uses HIV rapid testing technology along with behavioral and cultural survey.
  • Collects HIV information from different API ethnic groups.

As a MATH Study participant you will:

  • Undergo informed Consent process.
  • Agree to an anonymous oral Rapid HIV Testing & counseling.
  • Complete a 30-45 minute self-administered behavioral survey.
  • Be referred to prevention, support & treatment services as appropriate.
  • Receive $25 cash incentive.
  • Receive $20 for referring other Asian & Pacific Islander men into the Study (up to $60).

To take part In the Study you must:

  • Identify as male.
  • Be 18 and over.
  • Identify with an Asian/Pacific Islander ethnicity as your only ethnic identity or as part of a mixed heritage.
  • Have the ability to read at least one of the following: English, Chinese, Vietnamese, or Japanese.
  • Be willing to be tested for HIV by rapid HIV testing.
  • Give informed consent to all the above.
  • Not be a prior participant.

If you already know your HIV status you can still participate.  The MATH Study welcomes Asian & Pacific Islander men who have had sex (including mutual masturbation, dry humping, oral sex, and anal sex) with another male.  You can be HIV Positive or Negative.
