Stroke and heart disease are the number one killer in America. To bring awareness to this important health issue, February is known as American Heart Month.
On February 14th, Valentine’s Day, APAIT Health Center did its part by introducing “Everyone Has A Heart,” a community event to encourage heart health. Working with The American Heart Association (AHA) and the USC Keck Medical Center, APAIT Health Center and CORE Community Health Center provided free heart checks to clients and area residents. Over seventy-five people came by to screen their hypertension and check their blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
To encourage a healthy lifestyle, fresh fruit and vegetables were distributed to those who completed a health check.
