ARISE: APIs Reducing Risk Through Individual Support and Education

ARISE is an individual counseling and prevention case management program that focuses on Asian and Pacific Islander (API) gay and non-gay identified men, and API transgender women, ages 18 and over, living in the metropolitan Los Angeles and South Bay areas of Los Angeles County.

Through a curriculum developed by the Center for Disease Control called Comprehensive Risk Counseling and Services (CRCS), ARISE will conduct 5 individual sessions with each client, including a 30 and 60 day follow-up session. Sexual health discussion topics vary by individual needs, but common discussion topics include, HIV risk reduction, harm reduction, coming out issues, hormone treatment, housing and homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence, and even HIV treatment adherence for HIV positive individuals. A core element of ARISE is linking clients to other quality referrals, such as mental health services, hormone treatment, medical services, and other services for client’s needs.
